University District Seattle Real Estate

U DISTRICTThe University District in Seattle – or as locals have dubbed it “The U District” – is so named because the University of Washington campus is located in the neighborhood. Condos and apartments surround the campus, but the architecture of the older homes will delight you. You’ll find grand Tudor, Colonial, and Craftsman homes built in the early 1900s for fraternities and sororities. As the neighborhood expanded north from campus, large homes – many converted into boarding houses – and small Craftsman bungalows were built.

The U District is located east of I-5 and Wallingford, west of Laurelhurst, south of Roosevelt and Ravenna neighborhoods, and north of Portage Bay and Montlake. The neighborhood benefits from plentiful transit services, and in 2021, light rail service begins which will connect riders to downtown Seattle and the airport, and to Northgate. The heart of the U District is the area around NE 45th St and University Way NE (also known as The Ave)…although many Huskies might say it’s the University of Washington campus. The area features an eclectic mix of architecture, restaurants, theaters, and shops.
